The White Tower
The White Tower of Thessalonica is the most famous building of city. It is found in the Eastern side of city. Built in 15th century A.D, as part of fortification of city, and at the Ottoman domination constituted prison and part of tortures. Afterwards the release of city the 191, the tower was whitewashed in order to be cleaned by the blood and thus the tower was renamed in “White Tower”. Despite the above today the White Tower is no more white, maintains his name and is considered the signal of deposited Thessalonica. Today the White Tower is prepared in order to it accommodates a permanent report dedicated in the city of Thessalonica and her residents.

 


Galerious Arch
The arch of Galerious  belongs in Galerian cluster of buildings, in the south-eastern side of historical centre of Thessalonica.  Built in 305 A.D. as a monument to the triumph of Galerious over the Persians. From the initial arch only 3 pillars and her department of upper stonemasonry have been rescued today. The 2 main pillars are covered by handcrafted marble plates. The building was constituted initially by 4 main pillars and 2 smaller in each side, with last ones they support in the central structure. Via the arch was possible the access in Galerious palace, southerly, and Rotonda, north. Today is saved only part of building and there are no further information on the period and the conditions under which was destroyed the arch.

 


Rotonda 
Rotonda is a circular building that was manufactured 306 A.D. as Pantheon or Mausoleum for Galerious. At the Byzantine years, at kingdom of Dionisious the Great, Rotonta was transformed in Christian temple while at the Ottoman domination was transformed in musk. Do not omit to admire the unique mosaics of 4th century.

 


Acropolis – Eptapyrgio
It is found in the North East area the city, in the taller point and it is surrounded from Byzantine walls. Northern utmost the citadel it is encompassed by a second line of walls that is called Eptapyrgio. It was built during Venetian period by Venetians in order to defend the city from the Turkish threat.It was named Eptapyrgio thus for the seven towers that it had in the perimeter of his walls.

 

The City Walls (Kastra)
The city walls that surround Thessalonica from its mounding years saved the city a lot of times from the raids of barbarians. At periods they were supplemented or strengthened, for this purpose hence the different wall departments which belong in differences seasons. They covered the all northern part of city (Citadel), they went down from western and Eastern as the beach and continued at length of beach. In different points of walls were gates from which some are preserved while other were lost, as well as towers, as the current White Tower and the fortress of Vardariou. The Turks in 19th A.D demolished big parts of walls, in order to allow marine wind to refresh the city. From 8.000 metre of the Byzantine walls only 4.300m are saved today, mainly in north the city.
